One

Matthew 5:14-15

14 “You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. 15 No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

This week I was sent this reading that I thought might speak to you today. I have added a reflection at the end.

One tree can start a forest.
One smile can begin a friendship.
One hand can lift a soul.
One word can frame a goal.
One candle can wipe out darkness.
One laugh can conquer gloom.
One hope can raise your spirits.
One touch can show you care.
One life can make the difference.
Be that One today.

And I would add….

As you seek to be the one who laughs and hope and touches and makes a difference, trust in The One who empowers you to do all things and will strengthen you to be light in the world. Each of us can shine and can make a difference, right where we are, even now.

Today we also remember that it is the 75th Anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe (VE Day) and we give thanks for the many who served and continue to serve.

Prayer
God of Peace, we know there is still so far to go. We pray that as the world heals from COVID, that healing might extend to allow barriers to be broken down and peace to reign. May we each offer our gifts and be “One” who helps to heal the world.  Amen.
