Nothing

Romans 8:38-39 NRSV

38 For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Reflection

Some days it feels like we ARE separated from God, especially when we are separated from God’s people; when we miss community, when we are isolated, when we long to be with loved ones and those we hold dear.

Sometimes when we feel that God has left us, I cannot help but wonder if we are the ones that have left God. It can happen so easily; we forget about our part in our relationship with God and before long we realize we have lost sight of the One who never loses sight of us.

It’s not too late to find our way. Through seeking God out in prayer and listening with open hearts, through exploring scripture for how it speaks to us today, through witnessing the wonder of God in creation, we can discover that God is with us. In our interactions with others, even with masks and protective shields and from a distance, we can see the face of God. Nothing can separate us from God’s love….sometimes we just need to remember to be open to experiencing it.

Prayer:

God, your Word promises that nothing can separate me from your love.  Help me to trust that, and remind me that I am part of our relationship. Encourage me to seek you out and to share your love with others.  Amen.

To Listen and Sing:

This hymn was sent to me when I asked what hymn would you sing to Jesus or Jesus might sing to you?  It spoke to this person as they were in isolation with nowhere to go. Even when we come to the garden on our own – Christ will meet us there.  God is ever-present.  As our United Church of Canada creed reminds us “God is with us.  We are not alone.”  Thanks be to God!
